Twelve Gates Arts says
Twelve Gates Arts invites you to explore the confluence of art and poetry in the work of Israeli-born New York-based artist Izhar Patkin. Patkin's 2014 retrospective at MASS MoCA featured his collaboration with the legendary Kashmiri-American poet Agha Shahid Ali (1949 - 2001), with whom Patkin collaborated during the two years before Ali's death. Inspired by Ali's words, Patkin executed a cycle of spectacular mural-size paintings on gossamer tulle, entitled "Veiled Threats" (1999 - 2010). The paintings in My Name Is Izhar Patkin: A Tribute To Agha Shahid Ali, are inspired by themes of memory, loss, love, and exile in Ali's poems.

Izhar Patkin has exhibited internationally at the Venice Biennale, Italy; Sao Paulo, Brazil; The Whitney Biennial, New York; the Tel Aviv Museum, Israel; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Yokohama Museum, Japan; Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, Indiana among many others. His work is in the collection of LACMA, Los Angeles; Guggenheim Museum, New York; MoMA New York; Whitney Museum, New York; Tel Aviv Museum, Israel among several others.

Jamal J. Elias is the Walter H. Annenberg Professor in the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania. He has written and lectured broadly on various aspects of Islamic literature, art, thought, culture and history in the medieval and modern Islamic world. He will recite a selection of Agha Shahid Ali’s translations of Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poetry followed by the Urdu originals.
