PI-Philly, Professionisti Italiani a Philadelphia says
US premiere presented by The Center for Italian Studies and the Cinema Studies Program at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with PI-Philly.

A beautiful and accurate biopic about Italian poet and philosopher Giacomo Leopardi, portrayed by acclaimed actor Elio Germano. The film, directed by Mario Martone, explores Leopardi’s short but intense life from his childhood in the small town of Recanati to the years spent in Florence and Naples.

Q&A with Gaetana Marrone Puglia (Princeton) and Alessandra Mirra (UPenn) to follow.

The movie will be preceded by a light reception @ 6pm

Gaetana Marrone Puglia is professor of Italian literature and cinema at Princeton University. Her interests include modern literature, theatre, film, and women’s studies. She has also produced award-winning films and is currently working on a project on Francesco Rosi.

Alessandra Mirra received her Doctorate in Italian Literature defending a dissertation on Giacomo Leopardi. She has extensively published on Leopardi and other Italian poets of 19th-20th century. She is completing graduate school in Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
