The latter two books were adapted into popular and acclaimed films. In 1995 he received an Order of the British Empire for service to literature and in 1998 was named a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Artes et Lettres by the French government. In The Buried Giant, Ishiguro’s first novel in nearly a decade, a couple journeys across an uneasy landscape in search of their erstwhile son.
