Cécile Mc Lorin Savant says
“Cécile McLorin Salvant, the finest jazz singer to emerge in the last decade, combines the rigorous sensitivities of an artist with the wary calculation of a critic. Her whole bearing as a performer—judicious, confiding, theatrical, skeptical—suggests a watchful distance from the persona she so persuasively embodies.”—New York Times

GRAMMY-winning jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant was born in Miami, Florida, to a French mother and a Haitian father. She started classical piano studies at age five and began singing in the Miami Choral Society at age eight.

In 2016, Salvant’s third album, For One to Love, won the GRAMMY Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Her work has also moved beyond the jazz world and has entered into the broader culture. You can hear her voice on commercials for Chanel products or in the soundtrack for the HBO television biopic Bessie. But this crossover success has come without compromise. As critic Nate Chinen notes, “whatever else you might say about her,” Cécile McLorin Salvant sounds “clearly, unmistakably like a jazz singer.”
