WAKE UP EARLY, Phoenix! Wear BLUE to support Jessie! Jessie's trial officially starts March 31st. She needs community support now more than ever.

There will be a support rally before Jessie's trial begins, to send a clear message to the media, judge and prosecutor that there is an entire community supporting Jessie and trying to get her home. Independent media is strongly encouraged to attend. Bring signs, wear blue and share Jessie's story!

Jessie B is a 17 yr old girl who has been held in isolation in adult prison for over a year, pending trial. She is being tried as an adult for the accidental death of a 43 yr old man who was giving her heroin and taking advantage of her sexually. She is being charged with 2nd degree murder and faces 17 yrs to life in adult prison.

The media sensationalized Jessie's case at the time of her arrest through tabloid journalism. News stories unethically framed a 43 yr old sexual predator as the "boyfriend" of an extremely vulnerable 16 yr old. Jessie's blue hair and social media presence were used to characterize her as a dangerous "goth teen," rather than a child who had been victimized by an adult. The campaign to hold reporters and news editors accountable for their reporting on a case of sexual assault has seen moderate success and many stories have been revised online, however the media cycle is starting again now that Jessie's trial is beginning.
