Bach Choir of Pittsburgh says
Perhaps less well-known than Frostiana or his Alleluia, the Requiem is considered by scholars to be Randall Thompson’s masterpiece. It is also a thoroughly American work, and has earned a place of significance in this nation’s musical history. Composed for double-chorus a cappella, the Requiem assembles Thompson’s own personal statement in English, using biblical scripture.
