Doors 7:30pm - All Ages Show - Bar with I.D.

The Minor Key Concert Series at The Old Church was created to showcase the best singer-songwriters this world has to offer. Genres will range, but the stories will linger. Set in Portland's oldest still standing church, you will find yourself set in one of the most intimate venues around. David Olney performance on Jan. 27, 2017 is confirmed for a DUO presentation. David will be accompanied by Daniel Seymour on bass and background vocals.

David Olney doesn't defy categorization so much as he rises above it. There is simply no one else like him. Singer/Songwriter? Yes, by definition. Master craftsman and globe-trotting performer Olney has released more than 20 albums over four decades, including six live recordings. Olney's unforgettable songs and powerful performances have attracted a devoted following the world over.

In his twenties, Olney left his native Rhode Island for the South setting in Nashville where the music he loved was made. His songs found favor with Music Row publishers and resulted in several songwriting deals, but commercial success was elusive. Olney spent the early 80s fronting his band the X-Ray, channeling the side of himself he calls the rock n roll animal and landing a slow playing in Austin City Limits. Things started to click, he had found his niche, and the series of critically acclaimed solo albums that ensured continues today. Recently releasing his latest studio album, When the Deal Goes Down, David presents a dozen tales of roots music mayhem and delight. Produced through Deadbeet Records, David is backed with some of Music City's most creative players!

In performance, Olney is a revelation. The shows are seamless and riveting whether solo, as a duo with the brilliant and versatile Sergio Webb, or with full band Olney shines brightest. With his self-described theatrical song serving as script, Olney does just that, one inspired role after another.

Keep it current and keeping up with his fans, David broadcasts every Tuesday on his website with his You Never Know Songwriter Series featuring the story behind a song and its performance along with other personal observations in addition to sharing his other music videos and stellar classic poetry recitations on YouTube.

If you like your musical heroes to rock out like the jackhammer of a rockabilly saint but also deliver song sonnets from a contemplative place, then David Olney is your man. ( Acoustic Live! Magazine New York, New York )
