Are you rehearsing for a performance? Preparing for an audition? Trying a new song on for size? Studio Open Mic is an opportunity for any singer to show up and sing any song he or she may desire, with a first-rate accompanist, in a friendly and supportive environment. In the spirit of the classic New York piano bars, all you need to do is show up with your sheet music and plop it down on the piano – first come, first served. Unlike other piano bars, this open mic is not focused on late night carousing, but rather on providing an all-ages space for developing your craft, for no matter how much you practice on your own, there is no substitute for working with an unknown accompanist in front of strange faces. Your peers, there for the same reason, will provide a warm and forgiving audience for your risk. Suggested $5 per song and $5 cover for non-singing guests. Mont Chris Hubbard is a composer, performer, music director, and accompanist of countless auditions. He received a 2013 Portland Area Musical Theatre Award for his music direction of the Broadway Rose’s Little Shop of Horrors. He has also released three CDs of solo piano improvisations. He is the creator and host of Portland's most endearingly-strange variety show, The Mont Chris Hubbard Bonus Show, and hosts a weekly late night piano bar.
