Know Your City says
Join Know Your City and artist Laura Hadden to celebrate Wage/Working Jukebox, an oral history project about labor and income inequality, at its third and final stop of 2015 at Likewise, a bar that supports and sustains artists and their practice.

There will be a reception for the jukebox September 24th. It will remain on display at Likewise through 2015, in which time visitors will be invited to interact with the jukebox, listen to the stories, and reflect on the working lives of individuals from a diversity of professions and socio-economic backgrounds.

The jukebox, a collaborative art project by Laura Hadden and Tennessee Watson, features stories and sounds of working Portlanders. The stories and sounds – collected by Hadden and Watson as well as participants in the free Wage/Working oral history workshop – are edited to the length of time it takes each worker to earn $1 (resulting in longer stories by those who earn the least). The project is presented in partnership with Know Your City in order to provide community members with a unique encounter with the issue of income

The project was awarded a small grant from SE Uplift’s Neighborhood Small Grant Program and additional funding through the SEIU Local 503.
