The Fado show in Downtown - Meu. Único. Fado. is a multimedia experience that makes it possible for those who live not only to hear, but also to get to know the history and essence of Fado.
Over the course of about an hour, some emblematic themes of the genre are interpreted live, interspersed with segments of a short documentary, which revisits, through testimonies of people whose lives are made of Fado, some critical moments in the history of that which was considered, in 2011, Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The show takes advantage of the simultaneous translation technology installed in the auditorium Fado na Baixa, which allows visitors to listen to multimedia content in Portuguese, English or French. Other languages will follow soon.
The experience begins with Traditional Fado, the fado of loud voices and careless language, despised by the aristocracy of the country. Then explore the mysteries and evolution of the Portuguese guitar, the faithful companion of all fado players. He also passed through Coimbra, the eternal city of students, who, bustling with passion and culture, saw his own Song of Coimbra being born, which, at the end of the 19th century, would be called the Fado of Coimbra. The fourth segment of the show is dedicated to Amália Rodrigues, who brings new poets and gives the Fado an unmistakable character and unprecedented recognition across borders. We then came to the present and the fusion of Fado with new contexts, people, styles of music and public.
