'In Jackson Heights' Movie Now Playing! (Dec 11 17) says
Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse communities in the United States and the world. There are immigrants from every country in South America, Mexico, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and China. The people who live in Jackson Heights, in their cultural, racial and ethnic diversity, are representative of the new wave of immigrants to America. The subject of the film is the daily life of the people in this community—their businesses, community centers, religions, and political, cultural and social lives—and the conflict between maintaining ties to traditions of the countries of origin and the need to learn and adapt to American ways and values.

“Lovely… Immersive… Intelligent.” – Jessica Kiang, The Playlist

“As teeming and invigorating as a summer block party.” – Paste Magazine

“Wiseman’s work takes on the moral density of a Dickens novel. It’s smart enough to find the moments that show our civilization, as big and complex and troubled as it is, is still worth fighting for.” – Brandon Harris, The New Republic

“The empathy and understanding exhibited in Wiseman’s film is a monumental achievement. (The film’s) surprising intimacy will enthrall viewers. This small film suggests the infinite.” – Jaime N. Christley, Slant magazine

“A thrilling, transporting love letter from Frederick Wiseman to New York and its multi-everything glory… A movingly principled, political look at a dynamic neighborhood… An epic of a city, its people and the democratic process… By the time fireworks are soaring, your heart is, too.” – Manohla Dargis, The New York Times
