There’s no doubt about it: 2019 is a banner year for LGBTQI visibility in America. Just look at the queer stars and narratives celebrated in mainstream media, and openly gay politicians running for office. There’s no better time to commemorate those who’ve come before us—like those who struggled valiantly for LGBTQI rights at the Stonewall uprising half a century ago—while also working together towards a more progressive future.
Much of the fight for LGBTQI rights has taken place here in San Francisco, the city that elected the first openly gay elected official in California, Harvey Milk. Naturally, our annual Pride festivities (June 29-30) are a big deal. This year, San Franciscans can catch queer flicks at Frameline43: International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, check out a performance from the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, or join thousands at the annual Trans March. That’s not to mention the Dyke Rally & March through Castro and Pride Parade on Market Street.
If you’re in need of an outfit for Pride (you surely are!), look no further than H&M’s Pride Capsule Collection, showcasing summer-friendly pieces that celebrate LGBTQI pride while also letting you express your own individuality. As an official World Pride sponsor, H&M is donating ten percent of sales proceeds—a minimum commitment of $300,000—to the United Nations’ Free & Equal Campaign. The company has a long history of spotlighting LGBTQI artists and creatives such as actress Laverne Cox and actor and comedian Rickey Thompson. Their aim for this year’s collection: to let you dress like your unapologetic, fun, and fearless self.
