Amira: Queen Of Sevdah says
Dubbed “Bosnia’s Billie Holiday” by music journalist and author Garth Cartwright, Bosnian singer Amira Medunjanin is largely responsible for the recent popularity of Sevdalinke (also known as Sevdah), a traditional genre of music from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Amira learned Bosnia’s evocative songs of love and melancholy at home from her mother. Along with growing recognition in Europe, Amira has received rave reviews, being described as “one of the great voices from the Balkans.” From Taiwan to Liverpool, her vocal charisma unfailingly moves and captivates. Along with classic favorites, Amira will be sharing songs from her upcoming album “Damar” released by World Village/Harmonia Mundi.
