More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and caring for them in an effective, thoughtful manner escapes many physicians and family members. According to Dr. Anne Lipton (lead author for The Common Sense Guide to Dementia for Clinicians and Caregivers) says there are seven important lessons to apply when caring for people with dementia: respect, teamwork, routine, preparation, flexibility, positive engagement, and safety. She’ll give an overview of dementia, how best to care for those with the disease, and offer creative, effective tactics for care strategies.
