AXIS Pioneer Square says
Opening October 1st, 2015

AXIS Pioneer Square is pleased to present FACE ME, an exhibition of portraits by Northwest-based artists Tom Deslongchamp, Erin Pollock, and Joe Mac Kechnie.

Tom Deslongchamp’s work follows an unconventional process. Using Crayola markers and paper cutouts for masking, he creates rich layers of color in his illustrations. His subjects, vibrant and expressive, come alive with his highly deliberate use of the medium. Wide smudges accentuate the smallest of details, creating dynamic portraits that suggest movement and fluidity.

Erin Pollock is returning to painting after many years working as half of the collaborative team KeseyPollock. Her recent solo work includes a new series entitled “Devices,” which examines the complexity and nuance of human connection, ego, and our fraught relationship with technology. These paintings depict hunched figures, staring at their empty hands, faces lit dramatically by the orphaned light from their missing phones.

Joe Mac Kechnie’s work borders on representational but hints at the abstract. He approaches his process as a language for practice and teaching, his techniques as a mode of storytelling. He chooses his subjects for elusive qualities, seeking to understand what is often difficult to depict or portray.

Artwork up through November 2nd.
