Presented in collaboration with Light in the Attic Records and Everyday Music in celebration of Record Store Day

In the mid-1970's, as country music became increasingly defined by the Nashville circuit ladder, a group of artists including Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, David Allan Coe, Rodney Crowell and SteveYoung busted out of the confines of commercialism to create the outlaw country scene in Texas and Tennessee. In this iconic documentary, director James Szalapski gives us "a series of impressions and a parade of visits" (original NY times 1981 review) into the lives of the progenitors of this raw and deeply soulful heritage movement. Captured through interviews, snapshots and concert footage, this much-celebrated film marks a defining music history moment, one steeped in southern sweat, alcohol, all night jams in ramshackle houses, and nomadic legends with nothing to lose.

To honor the 40th anniversary of this 1976 cult classic film, Light in the Attics Records is releasing a lavish collectible, hand-crafted box set featuring a double LP of the film's stunning soundtrack, a restored DVD of the original film and an 80 page book interviewing artists, documentary creators and unseen photos taken during the making of the film. Buy the box set on Record Store Day, April 16, at Everyday Music on Capitol Hill.
