Help Us Continue To Make Beautiful Music At The Hillman City Collaboratory

Friends of the Collaboratory, On Tuesday morning last week someone broke into the Collaboratory and walked out with each piece of sound, video projection, and music equipment that we had. This was a devastating and heartbreaking loss. In every way, it has been a privilege and a joy to partner with you to in the birth and growth of the Hillman City Collaboratory. Over the past two years we have loved the genuine and significant partnership as our space developed with thousands of volunteer hours from an rarely used 5,000 ft² indoor space and vacant lot behind it to the thriving hub that it is now: - housing 20+ small nonprofits and microbusinesses - community garden program - drop-in playspace and classes for children and families - drop-in center for those experiencing homelessness - newly renovated community kitchen (classes for kids are starting now!) - space for healing, organizing, belonging, singing, painting, conspiring, and more. Through our fiscal sponsor Valley and Mountain we have insurance to begin replacing some of our equipment but in addition to the deductible what is provided by insurance will not cover the entirety of our losses in equipment. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to cover the deductible, enhance security, and replace equipment that allows us to make beautiful music again. Inasmuch as community is our strength we know that it comes with experiences of vulnerability and sometimes harm, such as occurred on Tuesday. Knowing these can leave ripples of uncertainty and insecurity, we choose, in classic Collab fashion, to overcome harm and hurt with stronger affirmations of caring community. In other words, we get robbed... so we have a feast, music, and dance party! We invite you to bring your family, your friends, your favorite dish and drinks, walk through our doors and come to dance and talk connect and affirm the joy of sharing space together!
