History Of The American City: Exploring The Metropolis Through Documentary says
Over the past 100 years, we've witnessed dramatic changes in the life of American cities. In this class, we'll explore how documentaries shed light on this cycle of decay and renewal and what it means for us today. Join instructor Christopher Rufo as he shares clips from a wide range of documentaries from the 1930s to the present and leads a discussion about the role of cities in modern life.

Class Specifics:
Thursday, September 22nd
SIFF Film Center Classroom
7:00pm - 9:00pm
$15 / $10 Members

The course will consist of a one-hour lecture and one-hour discussion. We'll examine how documentary filmmakers tell the story of cities and take a look at clips ranging from Depression-era government newsreels to contemporary documentaries about the pleasures and perils of the urban landscape. By the end of the evening, you'll have a greater understanding of the dynamics of modern cities and how to apply these ideas to the current changes in Seattle.
