Influenced by Patrick Kavanagh, Charles Baudelaire. Probably the first song that ever kicked James in the teeth was Tecumseh Valley , Townes van Zandt, at about the age of 10. James is a huge fan of June Tabor, Fairport Convention , Ian Tyson, Stan Rogers, Mickey Newbury (thanks to Jonny Fritz) and the one and only Mark Knopfler. James recorded his first album at Peach Street studio in Bozeman mt. harmonies done by the lovely Alaina Gordon. The studio is the home of the wonderful "live from the divide". Big Red studio in the wine country outside Portland OR, tracked by the legendary violinist Bill Oskay and at the magic closet studio in Portland OR, tracked by the amazing pedal steel player Bryan Daste. Bryan also played steel and piano on those recordings.
