John Kiley: 10,000 MPH
The eight monolithic sculptures born of crystal blocks included in this exhibition mark an important and significant shift in John Kiley's career. While this new series is based on the same notion that has guided all of his work in sculpture - that there is beauty revealed in the broken - this body of work does away with nearly all extraneous elements, pushing us to see clearly the break itself as beautiful. Hairline fractures disperse to loosely capture and define the space of the crystalline form. Kiley, in explosive and studied action, captures a totally unpredictable yet strikingly captivating network of facets, fissures and shards. With this shattering of transparency he beckons light in, inviting it to play. In infinite and stunningly beautiful iterations, John Kiley offers a gift of captured light.

Justing Ginsberg:
"There is a powerful capacity to communicate through process. By accepting this symbolic form of communication. I remain open to possibility and flexible to the unforeseen. it is within the realm of giving up control, letting go, embracing spontaneity - that my work is nurtured. Sparked by my intrigue into the properties of materials and the preciousness of action, I am attempting to abandon traditional methods, seeking new ways to engage process and object. I challenge the perceived boundaries of material and the presumed nature of things, often relying on metaphor and gesture, to express my interest into my own fragile existence.

The Lino space at Traver:
Years ago William Traver offered Lino Tagliapietra his very first solo exhibition in the United States, marking the beginning of what would become a remarkable career, a deep connection between the Pacific Northwest and Venice, and a more than 30 year friendship and partnership. After years of representing Maestro Lino Tagliapietra, Traver Gallery is thrilled to announce a new dedicated space for Lino's artwork, featuring a rotating collection of new and archived sculptures hand selected from the artist's studio.

It is with great honor that we invite you to join Traver Gallery and Lino on August 3rd from 5-8pm for the unveiling of this exciting new project!
