Seattle-based former CEO Steve Clifford has written a humor blog for "The Huffington Post" since 2010. In 2012 he self published a facetious novel, in which an ignorant, mendacious and despicable TV loudmouth is elected president of the United States. Now, with his trademark wit and years of experience in the corporate world, he presents "The CEO Pay Machine: How It Trashes America and How to Stop It," a book about the astronomically rising salaries of our country’s executives and the way it affects us all. The pay gap between U.S. chief executive officers and their workers is higher today than ever before. CEOs get paid between 300 and 700 times more than the average worker. Clifford offers a detailed look at this problem and the resulting harm to companies, shareholders, economic growth, and democracy itself. Using examples of the top four CEOs named the highest paid in 2011 through 2014, Clifford examines the psychology behind this trend and the rippling effects it has on all American workers.
