Exploring color design in response to gendered roles in Victorian domestic spaces, artist Jessica Dolence develops a surreal domestic environment within the gallery. Interested in exploring the narrative of design Dolence investigates the wonder, classification, science and religion found in Celeste Olalquiaga’s The Artificial Kingdom. The Blue Room, consists of full wall projections of animated wall paper, isolated video works, and individual print and embroidered objects, all in effort to further explore the artist attraction of melding a contemporary Internet aesthetic with tradition Victorian design.

Jessica Dolence is currently living outside of Detroit as an MFA Candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Prior to graduate school, Dolence lived and worked in Seattle and was a member of SOIL Gallery.
