The Films Of Martine Syms says
This series, conceived of by Kahlil Joseph, highlights the films and filmmakers of whom Joseph is proudest, and with whom he has worked very closely. Joseph’s most popular works have been music videos for artists such as FKA Twigs, Flying Lotus and Shabazz Palaces. Many who follow Joseph have only experienced his work on a computer screen or a handheld device. It has always been Kahlil’s desire to show his films on the big screen as he originally conceived them. We are very proud to offer two screenings featuring the films of Kahlil Joseph and Martine Syms, on the big screen in complement to the engaging sensory experience of Young Blood: Noah Davis, Kahlil Joseph, The Underground Museum.

Martine Syms is an artist and conceptual entrepreneur based in Los Angeles. Syms’ artwork has been exhibited and screened extensively, including recent presentations at the New Museum, Kunsthalle Bern, and MCA Chicago. Syms has lectured at Yale University, California Institute of the Arts, and the University of Chicago. From 2007–11, Syms directed Golden Age, a project space focused on printed matter. She founded a small press called Dominica, and worked with filmmaker Kahlil Joseph on his short film Alice featuring singer Alice Smith.
