You might associate the country of Afghanistan with fear due to the frequent occurrence of terrorist acts and ongoing civil war. But Afghanistan was different in ancient times. The “gold culture” thrived as the country enjoyed economic prosperity thanks to its rich cultivated lands and its bustling trade. Exhibited here are about 1,500 pieces of cultural assets owned by the National Museum of Afghanistan have been completely hidden away from the public since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It’s a bittersweet exhibition that has been touring the world for more than a decade, as, due to the political climate, it cannot return to its motherland.
