Time Out says

This National Day, Plural Art Mag brings Our Heartlands as part of #SGCultureAnywhere. The new contemporary art initiative features ordinary sites in Singapore through the eyes of 100 local artists, in response to the ongoing pandemic.

These works will be published on a microsite that will go live on National Day, August 9. Alongside the artists' works and their personal stories, Our Heartlands will also feature geotags of 100 different locations in Singapore – from the former Zouk Building at Jiak Kim Street and the wet market at Chinatown Complex to Serangoon Green and Toa Payoh Library.

In this virtual exhibition, the 100 visual artists stand in solidarity with fellow Singaporeans, celebrating beloved places in the Lion City that hold a special place in our hearts. The works respond to a wide variety of sites, from ones as personal as a particular coffee stand at Bras Basah Complex, to famous Singapore icons like Changi Airport.

The micro-site explores what makes a home a 'heartland', a word that is colloquially used to describe the suburban spaces where approximately 80 per cent of Singapore's population live – often in HDB flats. We are invited to dive deeper and reflect: is it a sense of personal affinity? An intangible quality that moves your soul and spirit? Or special bonds and a sense of kinship that binds a community?
