Asian Film Archive (AFA) is showcasing more critically acclaimed, festival favourites, and the most promising of contemporary Asian cinema through its regular series Releases. This season, it features two film – India's Gully Boy, and Japan's To the Ends of the Earth. Both are screened at the Oldham Theatre from July 31 to August 29 and September 4 to 25 respectively.
Gully Boy follows an aspiring rapper from the slums of Mumbai who defies his parents' white-collar expectations, battles class and social barriers, and rises to fame. To the Ends of the Earth tells the story of an introverted Japanese reality TV host who embarks on a journey of self-discovery with her crew around Uzbekistan.
