[title]Goodbye 2016, you’ve been swell. But before we welcome the New Year, it’s only right to send it off with a bang. There are no shortage of fancy dress parties, beach blowouts and rooftop revelries happening across town – but maybe this time ’round you should bring the celebrations closer to home.
SAFRA Punggol is throwing a year-end bash on December 30, in Punggol Waterway Park, that’ll keep you on your feet all night. Expect three hours’ worth of dance music that’s complete with sparklers, a silent disco, an eclectic mix of music and a headlining set by Zouk’s favourite crowd-pleaser, DJ TINC. Here are six reasons why you should be spending your last Friday of the year at TGIF 2016 @ SAFRA Punggol.
Silent disco is coming to the heartlands
If you’ve, err, ‘heard’ about the silent disco parties mushrooming all over the island, here’s your chance to finally experience what it’s like to party in silence. And it’s happening right at your doorstep, well for you north-easties at least. Grab yourself a pair of noise-cancelling wireless headphones, pop them on and get ready to shimmy to DJ TINC’s collection of fresh trap and EDM jams as she kick-starts the party.
Depending on what’s your flavour, switch between pop, tech house and K-Pop as homegrown DJs Kid Fiesta, IMX and Sakura battle it out to spin the best tunes for each channel throughout the night. So whether you prefer shaking it off to Taylor Swift or getting down to Big Bang, everyone gets to boogie to their own beat. But the good vibes don’t just end there. You’ll be dancing on an LED-lit dancefloor, while the headphones themselves will emit red, blue and green lights so you’ll be grooving in a sea of colours. There are also pyrotechnics displays and all that jazz to amp up the celebration. Talk about taking a dance party to the next level.
There’s free flow food
Yeah, you read that right. All that dancing will give you the munchies, so you’ll be happy to know that there’s going to be free servings of grub. For finger food, Loco Loco’s offering carnival staples like popcorn chicken, nachos and cheese, and truffle fries. If you’re hankering for something heavier, then the chicken kebab live station will do the trick – it serves meat fresh off the grill and right into your belly. But here’s the catch: the food’s only available while stocks last. So come down early to grab your fill.
Party under the stars
There’s nothing quite like shimmying under the stars; and having a gorgeous waterfront view doesn’t hurt, either. At SAFRA Punggol’s courtyard, put on your best dancing shoes as you party against the scenic backdrop of Punggol Waterway.
Have drinks for $10 or less
It’s New Year’s Eve, which means booze has gotta be on the menu. And apart from a complimentary drink that comes with each entry ticket – it entitles you to either a Carlsberg or Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc – there’s also a list of chilled alcoholic beverages that come with impressively affordable price tags. Somersby ciders go at $7 each while a Guinness will set you back a mere $8. Sign us up, already.
Take part in the Mannequin Challenge
You can’t end 2016 without being a part of one the year’s most viral video craze: the Mannequin Challenge. As you move your body to the music, listen out for the DJs as they cue you to freeze, Matrix-style, in mid-dance. Doesn’t matter if you’re popping or locking – be ready to strike your best dance stance when the time comes. Challenge accepted, we say.
