Time Out says

If there's a price to be paid for beauty, Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj tells of its true cost. From November 14 to December 1, the Singapore Repertory Theatre is staging the Obie Award-winning play based on a myth that surrounds one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the magnificent Taj Mahal.

Directed by Jo Kukathas who previously channelled the titular character of Shakespeare in the Park – Julius Caesar earlier this year, the wickedly dark comedy follows best mates Humayum and Babur who stand guard at the grand monument hours before its unveiling in 1648. At the emperor's decree, no one is allowed to turn to admire the beauty of the architecture prior to its completion except for those who are working within the walls. As the first light catches on the massive white domes behind them, the temptation to steal a glance grows between the two. However, the plot thickens when the guards are ordered to do the unimaginable – putting their friendship on the line.

Will this end in a bloodbath or a will the pair escape a cruel fate? Find out the price of beauty by securing a seat at this brilliant play via Singapore Theatre Repertory from $35.
