Time Out says

T:>Works' annual 24-Hour Playwriting Competition is back this year – and will be held digitally for the first time this year. The competition calls all aspiring playwrights to experiment with imaginative ways to harness digital platforms and devices as performance sites and craft a digital experience for the audience.

Held over 24 hours, participants will have to create a 10- to 15-minute performance piece (eight to fifteen pages) to be presented on either one or multiple digital platforms – be it WhatsApp, Zoom, or social networking sites such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The piece can also be a hybrid performance written for both the physical as well as virtual stages. The story will be based on a theme that will only be announced at the start of the competition.

Throughout the 24-hour competition, the judges will be on hand as artist-facilitators. Participants will get to discuss their writing process or bounce ideas with them at selected intervals throughout the 24-hour process. There are two different categories to choose from – the youth (15-18 years) or open (19 years and above).

So get your creative juices flowing and dream up a full-length piece of drama within the 24-hour limit to win $150 for the third prize, $300 for the second prize and $500 for the first prize for both categories. Registration for each participant is $30 – and is open until July 17.
