A tale that remains as old as time, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince is still as captivating today as when it first debuted 75 years ago. A global favourite, this best-selling French tale about a little cosmonaut who leaves the comfort of his tiny planet to explore the universe, including his odyssey on Earth, is one to be celebrated. As part of its 75th anniversary, the Singapore Philatelic Museum shines its spotlight on the origins of the charming classic as well as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s life from now until March 2019. The heart of The Little Prince: Behind the Story exhibition showcases stamps, rare philatelic materials, the author’s personal belongings, illustrations, books, and sculptures by French artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga.

Open daily from 10am to 7pm, visitors and fans alike are invited to embark on their very own journey by immersing themselves in the fascinating world of early airmail where pilots risked their lives to deliver letters and parcels, including that of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s experience as a mail pilot. Fix your eyes on rare artefacts including mail covers personally signed by the author himself, as well as a thermal flask and a fragment of the plane he navigated which crashed in the Libyan desert, resulting in a near-death encounter.

For an interesting take on the exhibition, join The Little Prince In The Dark tours on Saturdays in November and December to explore unique tactile sculptures in a dark room setting. Conducted by visually-impaired guides from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Dialogue in the Dark, visitors are encouraged to use their sense of touch to feel the objects on display –something that’s uncommon in most museums. The tactile sculptures focus on the magic of storytelling and communicating through touch.

It doesn’t stop there – The Little Prince is here to stay at the Singapore Philatelic Museum until March 17, 2019. Keep up-to-date with the museum's special events at spm.org.sg.
