Beyond thrilled to announce Deborah Willis, Ph.D., an artist and one of the world's leading historians of African American photography and curators of African American culture, will deliver the keynote lecture for Conflict Resolution, a conference of the Midwest Regional Society for Photographic Education. Her lecture is sponsored by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

In addition to making art, writing, and teaching, Willis has served as a consultant to museums, archives, and educational centers. She has appeared and consulted on media projects including documentary films such as Through A Lens Darkly, Question Bridge: Black Males, a transmedia project that received the ICP Infinity Award 2015, and American Photography, a PBS documentary. Since 2006 she has co-organized thematic conferences exploring imaging the black body in the West. Willis has been elected to the board of the Society for Photographic Education, where she was chair of the board and received the Honored Educator Award in 2012, and the College Art Association. She holds honorary degrees from Pratt Institute and the Maryland Institute College of Art.
