Hello, All-

This month marks our 5 year anniversary for the GameDevDrinkUp! What started out as a small gathering in Los Angeles has spread to many different game development hubs around the world. The entire goal was to create a sense of community for developers, something that was lacking at the time. Throughout the years, we have brought many people together. This has lead to new friendships, business opportunities, and good times. I really appreciate all the support that the community has given back to the events. From their personal donations to the raffles and the support from our different sponsors throughout the years. Especially Twitch, who has been our long time sponsor, given us tons of prizes and countless drinks. :)

We don’t run the DrinkUp as a for-profit business. Each city has volunteers that make these events happen. Every month they donate their time, energy, and money to hosting their city. They are the real heroes of the DrinkUp! Please give special thanks to Warren Price, Grant Shonkwiler, Christopher Hays, Wes Ehrlichman, Adelle Bueno, Katie Better, Glenn Winters, Chris Ainsworth, Manya Susoev, Jim Galis, and Drew Marlowe. They have taken the initiative to be leaders in their local communities and put in the time each month to make sure we have great events. Without them, there would be no DrinkUp.

In the future, we look to continue to bring the event to new cities. Helping to spread this sense a community between developers and making sure that we see each other more often than a couple conferences a year. It might not sound like much, but I know personally I have met fantastic people, life long friends, and amazing collaborators to make new games.

So thank you for helping make these events such a great success. I’ve loved video games my entire life and as a kid ,I knew this is always what I wanted to do. I feel so fortunate to be apart of this industry and creating joy and fun in the world. What I never realized when I was a kid, was the amazing people who bring these games to life. You all are the smartest, most talented and nicest people I’ve ever met. That’s why it's so important for us to gather and celebrate our craft.

So cheers to another 5 years and hope to see you next Thursday!
