Edward McPherson is the author of three nonfiction books: "Buster Keaton: Tempest in a Flat Hat," "The Backwash Squeeze" and Other Improbable Feats," and "The History of the Future: American Essays." He has written for "The American Scholar," "Catapult," and "Epoch," among others. He has received a Pushcart Prize, the Gulf Coast Prize in Fiction, a Minnesota State Arts Board grant, and the Gesell Award from the University of Minnesota, where he received his MFA. He is a contributing editor of "The Common Reader." He teaches creative writing at Washington University in St. Louis.

francine j. harris is the author of "play dead," and has recent work appearing in "Poetry," "PEN America," "Literary Hub," and elsewhere. Her first collection, "allegiance," was a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery and PEN Open Book Award. Originally from Detroit, she is Writer in Residence at Washington University in St. Louis.
