“…with music this smart and inviting…it feels like a blueprint forward.” – Rolling Stone

The Robert Glasper Experiment–featuring keyboardist Glasper, drummer and St. Louis native Mark Colenburg, saxophonist/vocalist Casey Benjamin, and bassist Derrick Hodge–defies genre norms from any single discipline. “That’s what makes this band unique…we can go anywhere, literally anywhere, we want to go. We all have musical ADD and we love it,” said Glasper. With primary influences in neo-soul, hip-hop, jazz, gospel, and R&B, the Experiment also reinterprets songs from rock acts like Nirvana, Radiohead, Soundgarden, and David Bowie.

RGX’s 2012 album Black Radio won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Their follow-up, Black Radio 2, was once again nominated for Best R&B Album, and received the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children [of America].”

Joining RGX for these Jazz at the Bistro concerts only is another St. Louis native and McCluer High School alum, trumpeter Keyon Harrold. Harrold’s resumé also spans the jazz, R&B, and hip-hop worlds, from being a member of Maxwell’s famed horn section to playing, producing, or arranging for the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, Gregory Porter, Anthony Hamilton, David Sanborn, Janet Jackson, 50 Cent, Cirque du Soleil, and the Count Basie Orchestra.
