Time Out says

The Erko’s last Smokehouse Sunday of the year lets the smoker loose on a rum-themed menu

Inner West gem the Erko has become famous for its epic smoker feasts. Head chef Tats is just a little bit obsessed with the smoker, and isn’t scared to infuse anything with smoky goodness – and not just meats.

Smokehouse Sundays are held on the last Sunday of each month, with a new theme to explore each month. Some favourites from the past year have been ‘Plant-Based’, ‘Jamaican’ and ‘South African’ smokehouse.

November 29 will see the final Smokehouse Sunday for 2020, and the theme will be ‘rum’. Expect Bundi Rum’n’Coke chicken wings, with wings that are smoked for three hours then crisped to perfection. Drunken prawns will be served with Bacardi rum-smoked tomato sauce, jalapeño and coriander. The meat-free offering will be a special smoked taro and plantain curry, rice and peas, roti, and spiced rum-pickled habaneros. Or you can try a little bit of everything with a Smoker Board.

Rum cocktails and craft beers will be on hand to quench thirsts. As always it’s $10 pints of 4 Pines all day and $12 Bloody Marys 3-6pm.

It’s looking to be a cracker of a farewell but remember to book ahead in these socially distanced times to avoid disappointment. And don’t worry: Smokehouse Sundays will be back in January with the annual Plant-Based edition.
