Time Out says

Cantonese cooking both old-school and new, with inventive cocktails, late-night snacking and rooftop views to boot

The second of two giant venues to open on Westfield’s rooftop level in 2019, Duck and Rice is a 400-seat modern Cantonese restaurant and cocktail bar designed with the glamour of Art Deco-era Hong Kong and Shanghai in mind.

Duck is the star of the show here – available as a half or whole bird, in pancake or plain poultry form – but other highlights include classics like salt and pepper squid, black pepper beef and jazzed up interpretations of greatest hits like strawberry sweet and sour king prawns. There’s a fair bit of steamed and fried dim sum to choose from as well, including wild mushroom dumplings, prawn toast and scallop wontons.

The bar area holds more than 200 punters and features a smaller snack menu that runs until midnight, making this a smart choice for after-work drinkers and late-night shoppers alike. Cocktails like a black sesame rum Old Fashioned and a Clover Club made with Sichuan spice-infused gin meld Asian flavours with all-time favourites. Housemade sodas, Chinese tea, absinthe and baijiu flights, and a list of 100 wines (with plenty well under $100, and 28 available by the glass) round out the drink options. The best seat in the house? Out on the terrace, surrounded by the 250 glowing handmade Chinese iron lanterns.
