Inside a former Coogee corner store, just a stone’s throw uphill from the Coogee to Maroubra coastal walking route, the staff of the Lion and Buffalo are dedicated to serving up locally sourced, Polish-inspired meals and baked goods. This year, the colourful eatery was voted the most loved local café in Time Out’s Love Sydney awards, and on August 25 they’re keeping the good times rolling, celebrating their third birthday.
To mark the occasion, the café will be treating customers to a complimentary glass of bubbles, while they listen to local musicians and order seconds of the karpatka – a special Polish cake that’s heavy on the cream and short pastry. They’ll also be doing birthday presents in reverse, giving away surprise treats throughout the day to lucky customers. The festivities will last from 7am-2.30pm, and if you’re in need of a reusable coffee cup, it’s also your chance to grab one of their commemorative vessels, which will get you $1 off your cuppa from the Lion and Buffalo in perpetuity.
