Between 1933 and 1945, one-fifth of all Europe’s artworks – valued at billions of dollars – were looted or had their sales coerced by the Nazis, all because of a twice-rejected art school graduate by the name of Adolf Hitler and his war on “degenerate” modern art. So how did one man (surrounded by an army of yes men) come to believe he could shape the cultural history of Europe? Writer, actor and director Toby Schmitz tackles the question, surrounded by an outstanding cast that includes Guy Edmonds (The Moodys), Julian Garner (Top of the Lake), Anthony Gooley (Calamity Jane) and Septimus Caton (This Much Is True).
