‘Tis the season for street parties in Sydney, and now the Wynyard district – famous for its train and bus stations that are many commuters’ gateway to and from the city centre – is getting in on the act.
Wynyard is in the process of a widespread revitalisation by the City of Sydney, and the two-day Flow and Glow festival shines a spotlight on this precinct in the heart of the CBD, pointing the way towards its evolution from being less a thoroughfare and more a community.
With a theme of sustainable values, the party will feature a two-night line-up of DJs in Wynyard Lane outside Shell House, headlined by Belta Variant on Thursday May 26 and Mickey Kojak on Friday May 27 (5-10pm). In between acts you can visit local retailers and venues to grab a bite to eat, shop or enjoy a cocktail.
A one-of-a-kind content series at George Place in partnership with TEDxSydney, titled ‘Butterfly Effect’, will showcase sustainability-focused speakers, including author and councillor Jess Scully; 24-hour Economy Commissioner Mike Rodrigues; and brewer Pete Brennan of Heaps Normal. The talks will explore creative-led recovery, how real change is made in culture and business and how good design adds value to a community. Entry is free but register here for tickets.
Artist Markets will be open at 50 Carrington Street, 4-9pm, showing and selling work and hosting artist talks at 5.30pm each day. Keep an eye out for spectacular sculptures that will be installed in Wynyard Lane.
