What do you get if you age whiskey in craft beer barrels? Jameson Caskmates decided to embrace the spirit on inquiry to find out. Local beer legends Young Henrys kicked things off by ageing a Irish red ale in Jameson casks, before sending ten freshly soaked red ale barrels to Midleton in County Cork where they were re-filled with whiskey. The Jameson Caskmates x Young Henrys Edition was born, with new notes of caramel, malt and subtle hops with a mild spiciness.
These are most definitely limited edition bottlings, but if you head to the Unicorn for the launch party you can score a free Boilermaker, made with the Jameson Caskmates x Young Henrys whiskey and a Newtowner ale. They're only gratis for the first hour, so don't dilly dally, and keep your eyes peeled because there's going to be a surprise unplugged gig on the night.
