Award-winning journos, thought leaders and new talent headline this year’s festival

Award-winning Israeli journalist Matti Friedman leads the international guest list for Sydney Jewish Writers Festival. Friedman’s work went viral when he critiqued media coverage of Israel after the 2014 war with Gaza. He’ll be joined by stereotype-defying Rabbi Dov Lipman, former Member of the Knesset and campaigner against religious extremism in Israel.

US-based author Dina Gold will share her incredible legal battle to reclaim a building that was stolen from her family by the Nazis. Precious possessions lost during the Holocaust also feature in the fiction of New Zealander Julie Thomas.

Other highlights include talks from authors Steven Amsterdam, Nathan Besser and Meredith Jaffe; Holocaust survivors Baba Schwartz, Frank Vajda and Marcel Weyland tell their stories; and there are writing workshops for adults and for children.
