A workshop perfect for any budding travel photographer looking to turn their happy snaps into masterpieces is happening on Monday May 6 at the Imperial Hotel in Paddington. The Travel Photography Toolbox Workshop will be run by two leading players in the industry – Oded Wagenstein (published in National Geographic Traveller and Vogue) and Peter Eastway (publisher of Better Photography Magazine and whose credits include Lonely Planet and Qantas Magazine). They will lead participants through the process, from preparation to shooting in the field to post-production, all in a nine-to-five session.
It's one of two workshops at the Head On Photo Festival 2019, a festival that offers Australian photographers international attention with its blind-judged competitions. The class will cover the planning and techniques involved to get you taking better pictures while travelling, whether you’re a novice or fancy yourself quite the professional photog.
Throughout the day, the two professionals will lead sessions on all parts of the process of taking that perfect image. Expect practical and philosophical advice, such as how to approach strangers to take their picture; finding your own visual voice; and picturing the story you want to tell before you even get off the plane.
The session also includes a Q&A with the duo on the practicalities behind selling your work. Who knows? If you get good enough these skills might even help you sell some of those images to pay for your next adventure.
Tickets are $395 including lunch, but if you bring a few mates, they’ll knock $100 off the price of the group’s tickets (check the website for details).
