A series of illustrated books and magazines for kindergarten-age children, the Kinderbook is one of Japan’s longest continuously running publications. First released in November 1927, it has endured – and reflected – changes in society, educational policies and customs, all while remaining relevant to the daily lives of Japanese kids. Thanks to advances in printing technology, it now features photos alongside the familiar illustrations and has constantly evolved in terms of layout as well. The Printing Museum’s autumn special invites you to look back at the Kinderbook’s 90-year history.
