French photog Charles Fréger made waves with his recent 'Wilder Mann' series of exhibitions, which displayed shots taken in 18 European countries and at various local festivals, where revellers are dressed as regional variations on the Wild Man, a folk figure associated with the seasons, holidays, rites of passage, life and death. His new project, Yôkaïnoshima, turns the focus to Japan's traditional masked spirits, ogres and deities, shot in rice fields, mountains, forests and on beaches. Check out these mystical shots, along with a range of pictures from the Wilder Mann archive, at Ginza's Maison Hermès this spring.
