Time Out says

The National Center of Art, Tokyo is marking its 5th anniversary with a string of special exhibitions this year, the first of which is dedicated to painter Hiroji Noda – the artist's first major retrospective since a 1995 show in his native Wakayama. First coming to prominence in his mid-20s, Noda netted a prestigious solo show a mere year after he graduated from art school, and has been active for over three decades now. The 140-plus works on display here chart his early experiments with building and layering canvases, moving on to his more recent 'flat' pieces as well as his three-dimensional collaborations with sculptor Atsuo Okamoto, with drawings and videos of the artist at work shed further light on his creative process.
