A cosmopolitan artist who never seemed to find his place in the world, Kanazawa-born Rey Camoy (1928-1985) lived a dramatic life that eventually ended by his own hand, but was also a humorous and compassionate observer of society's less fortunate. His father's newspaper work took the family from Latin America to European capitals in Rey's childhood, helping him acquire a nuanced and comprehensive understanding of both joy and suffering – something that was often reflected in his painting. This extensive retrospective, held 30 years after the artist's passing, recounts Camoy's life and work through around 100 pieces, including personal belongings.
