New Yorker David Sumner, a.k.a. Function, has been an influential figure in the underground techno scene since the 1990s, when he hooked up with the industrial-minded producers working out of Birmingham, UK. Teaming up with Karl 'Regis' O'Connor, he started the fondly remembered Downwards label, kicking off a creative partnership that has continued to this day – finding its latest manifestation in the recently launched Sandwell District label. Function is booked for an 'exclusive long set' at Unit, though they'll still be time left over for a support slot by local DJ Nino.
