How's this for a last-minute substitution? After Booka Shade pulled out of this month's edition of Clash, the organisers managed to snag none other than Luke Slater, one of the UK's finest contributions to the world of techno, past or present. Although he's best remembered for his albums on Novamute in the late-'90s, Slater has been enjoying something of a revival of late, his harder-edged sounds offering a welcome antidote to the increasingly wan minimal scene. After dusting off his tough-as-nails Planetary Assault Systems moniker to considerable success in 2009, he's due to release a new LP under his own name later this year. Booka who?
