Describing themselves as a bunch of 'DJs and producers with a relaxed attitude to copyright law', Brighton's Soft Rocks posse made a name for themselves by crafting skillful re-edits from their vast record collections. But anyone who had the foursome pegged as straightforward nu-disco devotees might have been taken aback by last year's debut album, The Curse of Soft Rocks, which interspersed the more straightforward dancefloor cuts with dub excursions, Oriental melodies and narcotic tempos galore. Prepare to be wrongfooted as Soft Rocks make their Japan debut this weekend, supported by simpatico local DJs including KZA and Cos/Mes.
