The first Tokyo Deaf Film Festival lands in Shibuya with the motto of 'visual intelligence'. Unveiling a programme put together by two deaf directors, the festival sees screenings of flicks like award-winning 1992 documentary In the Land of the Deaf (Le Pays des Sourds) and 2015's For Your Love (Per amor vostro), a tale of a woman and her inner struggle in Naples, plus a subtitled version of Sion Sono's Love Exposure (Ai no Mukidashi, 2008). All films relate to how those with hearing impairments and users of sign language experience the world and society – a theme that is also explored in the related photography exhibition and during the festival symposia. See the full programme here (in Japanese only).
